ADRIAN MELLON

Adrian Mellon studio

Adrian Mellon is Irish. His work moves between painting, drawing, sculpture, objects and built structures.

Water, light, wind, balance and movement run through the work. Not as themes added from outside, but as things lived with, watched, tested and made visible. A painting may begin with water, but it is never only water. It is surface, depth, reflection, disturbance, distance and light.

The sculptural works follow the same line into space. Masts turn in the wind. Suspended forms shift with air and light. Objects become instruments for movement, gravity and balance.

The work is made from looking, building, remembering and testing. It is not separate from life. It comes from water, tools, materials, labour, weather, travel, loss, invention and the need to make visible what would otherwise pass.

Born in Johannesburg in 1960, Adrian Mellon has worked for more than four decades with painting, watercolour, drawing, sculpture, ceramics and spatial structures.
