SCULPTURAL OBJECTS

Big White Man grew out of the installation World Championships, but removes the figure from the surrounding scene of sofa, television, beer bottles and public football excitement. What remains is the seated body itself. Pale, oversized, exposed and enthroned in a striped chair.
The work turns the spectator into the spectacle. The figure appears dominant, but also oddly helpless. Monumental, without dignity. Its whiteness is not naturalistic but emblematic, giving the body a blank and artificial authority. In this reduced form, the work carries forward the unease of World Championships. The comedy, emptiness and power of public rituals in which watching, drinking, cheering and belonging become a kind of performance.
