SCULPTURAL OBJECTS

Wing is a small variation within the mast works. The lower white concrete form is static, slightly wing-like in its own right, standing as a fixed base or body. Above it, a separate element of glass fibre and Plexiglas is set into an axis and can turn with the wind.
The work changes through this simple relationship between fixed and moving form. As the upper piece rotates, the outline of the whole object alters. The wing is therefore never completely one shape. It opens, narrows, folds or extends according to wind and viewpoint.
Unlike the larger mast works, Wing is compact and almost model-like. Its movement is modest, but the logic is the same. Air enters the object and changes how it is seen. The sculpture does not represent flight. It holds the possibility of flight in a small mechanical shift, a fixed body with a moving surface, a wing that becomes visible through change.
